Protocols are a set of guidelines designed to establish best practices for ensuring that artificial intelligence (AI) systems are developed, deployed, and governed according to ethical criteria. These criteria often include:
- Fairness
- Explainability
- Non-bias
- Transparency
- Accountability
- Privacy, Data Protection, and Security
- Inclusion and Accessibility
- Environmental Impact
- Alignment with Human Values and Anti-corruption
While the primary goal may be social impact and responsibility, it’s important to recognize that the underlying motivations can vary. In some cases, ethical AI protocols are driven by business interests such as protecting reputation, preventing legal liabilities, or meeting investor and customer expectations rather than purely altruistic reasons.
Additionally, documenting ethical standards helps companies and Governments align with global policy discussions, regulatory bodies, and industry standards. By doing so, they not only demonstrate their commitment to responsible AI but also facilitate better collaboration with international policymakers and help shape the future of AI governance.
